Statement

An exploration of transformative states is a unifying theme throughout my practice. Working across mediums but grounded in the process of drawing, I combine the repetition of the line with material techniques to investigate notions of fragility and impermanence. This line is arrived at through gestures of negation or removal, such as burning, unweaving fabric, or otherwise abrading the work. The resulting line is therefore a void that has been excavated from the surface. Although my work is typically non-representational, I am influenced by my daily surroundings, both natural and built. Considerations of time are also important to me: both time as is defined through recurring actions that I undertake in the studio and that are embedded in an artistic outcome, as well as a transitional time that passes mostly unobserved, over the course of a day, a season, a century.
