This photograph is part of a series the artist shot in Basel in 2014 during a personally challenging time. In line with his practice of examining the routine and the mundane, he looked at the 'new' surroundings while seeking a resolution to his personal dilemma of where to be. The questions he faced were about absence, presence that an absence represents and of transcending time.
His own shadow in a lily pond, as he stood on the edge, caught his attention. He wondered at the distance between himself and this surreal representation, that seemed to have drowned itself (to lie at the very bottom of the pond) without a ripple.
