Monika Rechsteiner has consistently investigated sites we rather wish to ignore and forget. Her adaptation of avant-garde strategies, in the use of the camera and the montage, aims at the sharpening of our perception while at the same time interrupting and questioning it. In addition, her experimental and poetic work is not only capable of creating a surreal estrangement, but invites the observer to meditate on wider concerns of the world in which we live.
